They say that ignorance is bliss. I’m sure that that saying was specifically made for any real digital marketing specialist in South Africa. We have made peace with the fact that there is a new guy or girl suddenly claiming to be an expert every day. They claim that they have been in the industry for a million years and yet we have never heard of them. They are usually a trend that comes by, they try their luck, and then they leave because they are not able to get results and they create a bad reputation etc.
But sometimes you get one of these gems that really get your blood boiling; let’s call him “Peter”…
“Peter” has shared a profitable action post to a group from his personal profile. The status contains one of the longest URLs I have ever seen in a status on social media. The URL leads to a ticket site where you can buy tickets to his event which is ‘Teaching others how to do social media marketing’. The fact that he needs to put a URL for an event in a status tells me that he doesn’t even have the basic knowledge of how a native Facebook event works in order to promote his social media marketing training event.
It blows my mind! The sad thing is that I know that there are people that are going to fall for it because they don’t know any better. They are going to pay this guy money and I don’t even know what he is going to teach them. In his own social media marketing he has made a million mistakes already.
This is going to cause so much damage to someone’s business. It is going to be someone who is really knowledge hungry, that really wants to see their business grow, that really wants to succeed and an absolute @$$hole like “Peter” is going to take advantage of them, take their money and teach them nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! In my opinion that is stealing.
I always warn people: please check who you are going to receive training from. Do they have a track record? Where do they come from? Do they really have experience? Do they really have the necessary knowledge? How long have they been in the business? Check all these things. Check their references and previous clients. Do whatever you have to do but CHECK. Don’t take people to be who they claim to be. It is shocking and absolutely shameful that there are people out there who are taking advantage of others and stealing their money. This is a scam. That is the only way I can put it.
So please guys, be very careful. These guys claiming that they are specialists, claiming to be the next great expert… Rubbish. Go check the facts. Stop listening to whatever they are trying to tell you and go check the facts. Don’t fall for scammers like these guys. Please take care of yourselves.
