Something strange happened to me recently. I was in my personal e-mail inbox and suddenly saw a mail of which the subject line read ‘Invoice so-and-so’. Anybody who knows me well knows that I am super allergic to any debt that can be avoided. So for me, on a personal level, to be receiving any form of an invoice is practically unheard of. So I was immediately concerned and clicked to open the mail.
Only to find that it had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with an invoice whatsoever. For legal reasons I can’t identify this specific individual/business entity, but it was very clear that this was just a ploy and a cheap marketing tactic that he was using to get me to open his mail in the first place. But more shocking than that was the fact that the mail was in regards to their business coaching & marketing mentorship.
Except for the glaringly obvious reason why I was not impressed by this, this is just a HORRIBLE marketing tactic. It’s a cheap shot, lazy and old-school trickery…absolutely HORRENDOUS in all honesty.
This entire situation reminded me of valuable advice in terms of two things:
- If you are a business owner or marketer; PLEASE don’t use these kinds of old-school marketing tactics or strategies. It does your brand absolutely no good. It leaves a very bad brand taste in the mouth. And it’s very obvious why I would never personally be using this guy’s services (or listen to any of his advice for that matter) and I also won’t be referring anyone to him. So avoid, steer clear of these methods – you’re better than that.
- If you are on the receiving end of e-mails like these, PLEASE TAKE NOTE; if someone calls them a business and marketing expert and need to use tactics and ploys like these, PLEASE STEER CLEAR. Because heaven knows what kind of advice you’ll be paying for if you actually pay for any of these services. From a REAL specialist’s opinion it is shocking!
In conclusion; AVOID, AVOID, AVOID & UNSUBSCRIBE, UNSUBSCRIBE, UNSUBSCRIBE – you don’t need this kind of people in your life or even close to your business baby.
