The topic that pops up a lot during our workshops is Facebook’s boost button. There are two things you need to know when it comes to the boost button:
- The boost button is not as effective as creating an ad on your ad manager. If you don’t know what the ad manager is, you need to contact us…as in yesterday. It’s absolutely impossible to run a successful social media marketing strategy and grow a business without working on the ad manager.
- You need to start thinking of the boost button as a bit of a Facebook booby-trap. It’s the same equivalent as the witch’s house in Hansel & Gretel; it’s covered in the promise of giving your business an edge, it’s easily accessible, it’s quick as easy to use. But we all know what happened to Hansel & Gretel.
Facebook is a business and the boost button is the easiest and fastest way to boost their cash flow. Facebook knows that boosted posts are not nearly as effective as ad manager posts. They also know that people using the boost button either doesn’t know how to use their ad manager or think that it’s too complicated for them. Therefore, the Facebook algorithm is literally designed to identify and classify you as “stupid” if you get too trigger happy with the boost button. It’s their way of weeding out the suckers they can make more quick cash on.
This might seem very harsh, but it’s the truth. So whilst it’s perfectly fine to make use of the boost button every once in a while when you hit a lazy day or have certain time constraints, try to stay clear as much as possible.
